I am experienced in treating and assessing a range of psychological problems including those related to traumatic experiences, physical injury and brain injury. My particular interests are in treating anxiety, trauma and chronic pain.

Marg Beekhuis
beekmarg@netaccess.co.nz

From the University of Canterbury, I have a BA in both psychology and sociology, MA with 1st class honours in clinical psychology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology. I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board in the Clinical Scope of Practice, and a member of the NZ Psychological Society [NZPsS], the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies [ASTSS] and the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy [AACBT].

I work mainly with adults but do see teens. As well as assessing and treating a range of clinical problems, I supervise others from a variety of professions, and consult to public and corporate organisations, both locally and nationally.

I have practised for close to 40 years, initially within the public health system in NZ, and including 4 years in South Africa and England. This earlier work forms the basis for my continued interest in working with trauma, and complex conditions.

Having been for 8 years on the Psychologists Board [responsible for the registration, competence and discipline of psychologists], I chair committees to investigate complaints against psychologists.

Another area of interest is thus to assist psychologists and other professionals or to workplaces to practise safely and within ethical and legal constraints.

Some 18 years ago I was a founding member of what evolved to become Psychology Associates.

Appointments with Marg Beekhuis available at the Selwyn Clinic.
